These program-specific food scrap bags are required to participate in the program. Other bags sold in stores or online will not be identified for separation and may not withstand the trip in a garbage truck.

Collection Instructions: Collect your food scraps in the food scrap bag. At least once a week, tie a knot at the top to close the bag. Then, place your food scrap bag inside your trash cart or dumpster for collection. For most households, we recommend using 1-2 food scrap bags per week to make the most of your free annual supply.

What food scrap bag size is right for my household?

  • In testing, the 6-gallon food scrap bag was the preferred size for most households.
  • Larger households and those that cook at home frequently may prefer the larger, 13-gallon food scrap bags.

  • Participants can receive up to two free orders of 60 food scrap bags per calendar year (Jan. 1 - Dec. 31). Additional food scrap bags are available for purchase if you need more than two orders. Prices are $26.66 + tax for a 6-gallon supply and $36.90 + tax for a 13-gallon supply (Price includes shipping, handling and payment processing. Sales tax is calculated at checkout).
  • If you have already received your first free order this year and need more, you can place a second free order anytime before Dec. 31 of the same year.
